| What You Think...Controls Your Life |
 |
|
Where do your thoughts take you as you begin to think
about where you are and where you want to be in life?
In his book, "Who Is Man," Abraham Joshua Heschel
wrote "We become what we think of ourselves." That
is a belief to which I also ascribe. If our thoughts play
such a significant part in what we become in life,
perhaps we need to control what we think.
Negative thoughts can be self-defeating and take your
life in a negative direction. Sometimes your mind tricks
you into believing that a path is not the best for you to
pursue. This kind of thinking is usually a result of
negative beliefs you've carried with you for many
years. But, they no longer hold you in good stead.
Negative thoughts are born out of self-limiting beliefs,
fear, doubt, anger, low self-esteem, hatred, jealousy,
negative attitudes, etc.
Negative thoughts invade your mind and keep you from
moving forward. If there were something harmful or
destructive invading your personal space, you'd
probably get rid of it, wouldn't you? For example, if
you walked into your house to find yourself confronted
by a squirrel, you wouldn't simply say, "Oh, there's a
squirrel in the house. I guess I'll just have to deal with
it." No. You'd find any means possible to get that
squirrel out of your house because you know how
destructive squirrels can be, besides all the diseases
they might carry.
The same principle applies to your life. Don't be
passive and let negative thoughts take over your mind
and destroy your chances for success. Negative
thoughts are designs of the enemy, working to keep
you in defeat. Get rid of negative thoughts that cause
you to put yourself down or hold you back.
|
| Three Keys To Defeating Negative Thoughts |
 |
|
1. Reject negative thoughts immediately. Do or say
whatever you think will interrupt a negative thought
with a positive thought. My Grandmother used to
shout "Kellogg" in her loudest voice when she needed
to cut through negative emotions or thoughts. It
worked for Grandmother. It enabled her to move
forward with a more positive attitude. It can work for
you. After all, only you can control the doorway to
your mind.
2. Shut down the source. Get rid of the sources of any
negative thoughts that pervade your mind. Where is it
coming from? Is it fear, anger, low self-esteem, lack of
confidence or limits you've set for yourself? These are
the things that nurture many of your negative
thoughts. Cut off their source of supply. In upcoming
articles, We'll work on these unwanted sources.
3. Keep your mind filled with peace, joy, confidence
and victory. This requires discipline. Discipline always
seems painful rather than pleasant at the beginning.
But, later it yields peaceful fruit to those who have
been developed by it.
Getting rid of negative thoughts is also about change,
and change is a process. You can begin stripping away
negative thoughts one layer at a time, like shedding
unwanted clothing. Breaking through negative
thoughts is a key process for uncovering your
brilliance. It's a diamond that sparkles. Remember,
others around you sparkle when you do!

| Welcome! |
 |
|
Welcome to the premier issue of DIAMOND IN THE
ROUGH E-ZINE. It is yet another expression of my
long and passionate affair with the notion that like a
diamond in the rough, we too have the ability to come
forth in our own brilliance.
Malcolm Forbes, Sr. once said, "Diamonds are nothing
more than chunks of coal that stuck to their jobs." In
a sense he was right. Like chunks of coals, we too,
can make similar choices. We can develop, grow and
stick to our business of "becoming" and break forth into
our own brilliance. Or, we can choose to remain carbon
for fuel and fade away like embers.
What is your potential? This DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH
E-ZINE will offer some facets through which you can
grab some light and shine forth in your own brilliance.
It will help guide you through your journey. The
journey is most significant. It is the journey that
molds, shapes and develops. It is the part that builds
character and structure for the resulting diamond.
Enjoy the journey.
Here's to your brilliance!
